Heroes of the Storm

A single berserk reached us yesterday, after having come all the way over the mountains from the city of Willow, fourteen hundred miles away. He delivered to Alric a single package the size of a man's fist, wrapped in rags, and refuses to talk with anyone about events in the West.

Heroes of the Storm

Post by Arsenal »

Does anyone play? I just got an Alpha invite and have been playing it. For those that don't know, its Blizzard's new MOBA game.

It's interesting, it has some unique ideas that are refreshing to the genre. The best thing I have seen so far is that if someone leaves the game the AI will play their character. Having the dungeon mines similar to Diablo is a nice touch too. As someone who has played every blizzard game that has ever been released it is also fun to see all the games come together in one universe. I really like having a mount to get to battles quicker and the different gametypes and maps are welcoming to a genre like MOBAs where you end up playing the same thing over and over.

I'm undecided on whether I like that there are no items, I would guess that might be something that comes later after the Alpha. I'm not a fan of the control though, it seems a little bulky and not as smooth as some other MOBAs, but I'm sure that will get cleaned up. I really don't like the shared XP and no last hitting, but I understand the reasoning for both and maybe as the game is developed this will change or make more sense.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

Idk if you really want AI playing as their character unless the team could change the AI settings in game to different modes like aggressive, defensive, ganking, initiate for team fighting, etc.

in the MOBA Dota2, I kinda prefer having the extra gold go into my pocket and still have the option to micro the character. in HotS it seems that this will never be an option with the shared xp system, so the control and scripting of the AI needs to be pretty much flawless to be impressive. no last hitting puts a greater emphasis on team play (and farming for xp) rather than farming for items and having the knowledge and team cohesion to know which players should be farming for items and which characters will be effective with minimal farm due to their abilities.

I think the most impressive part of playing HotS is being able to play as characters from a wide variety of blizzard games, this is a great idea especially when reaping profit from past blizzard customers. the game mode i saw played in HotS reminded me of LoL's domination mode with the players being far closer and more integrated with all other players.

If you're going to play another game besides Myth, you should try Dota 2. 24/7 games and about 10 mythers (probably plenty more) are playing throughout the day. I have found the teamplay aspects of dota 2 remind me of the best myth 2 team play games (pub and tournament, and very rarely to never witnessed in the present era) at times. 7 million people playing and is a lot easier to get into than LoL

The VERY LAST THING, the Myth "Community" needs, is people recommending OTHER kinda RTS games to play!
Not like we have enough players to lend to other games with millions of players already anyway.

THOU SHALT HAVE NO GAMES BEFORE MYTH!

I admit to interest in DOTA2, but I hear things like the learning process is unnecessarily esoteric and the community is toxic.

I am an experienced MOBA player, I have played them all starting with the original Dota in war3. That said, I am only playing this becasue I got an invite and it's from blizzard. It's far from a polished game and not something that I will put any serious amounts of time into.

Par, for the most part I agree about AI but keep in mind this is an alpha and there isn't much going on. The AI that replaces a person is "elite AI" and is pretty good considering there is no strategy of any kind in the game yet. I'm sure by the time the game progresses it will be much better. I greatly prefer to have a bot play rather than playing 4v5.

I want to play elder scrolls but I really just don't have the time. I already have a long list of games in my to-play list and just don't have to time for an MMO. I do plan to pick it up and play casually at some point but not sure when.

I was really just interested if anyone else has played Heroes of the Strom. It's an interesting take on the MOBA genre.

The learning curve isn't too bad for 99% of the heroes, mainly you've got your 1 unit with its 4 abilities which aren't too hard to figure out, and when you're picking they'll be classified as support, carry, initiator, etc. Figuring out which items are good on which heroes may be difficult but there are in-game build guides to help newer players, and you can make your own builds when you figure the game out.
As for the community being toxic, for the most part it is, and the reporting system can be a double edged sword (idiots get to report people too) however there is the option to mute people and the most toxic players usually end up stuck in low-priority matchmaking.
